One of the Best Tips I Have Received!

Let it goOne of the best practical tips I ever received…

Visiting over at #TheLoft today and thrilled to be with some excellent women of God!

Has anyone ever said to you “Oh just let it go!” I heard it today and shared it as well. There are times when an issue needs to be resolved, a theft or a murder, absolutely! But what about the seemingly little things that come and go throughout our day that can drive us crazy to no end! This girl has had to receive and heed her own advice, to just let it go.

The ‘some ones’ in my life seem to be part of my most difficult choice to abide by that rule of thumb. In and of myself, I cannot make someone respond by what I would call ‘correctly’ whether it is to own up, or apologize for an offense or wrong doing. In my mind I play that game of ‘justice’ and the harder I play at it the more convoluted things begin to look.

Now I know what Matthew 18 says about those who ‘may’ have an issue with you and by gum, somehow I am suddenly carrying the thing I am trying to get rid of! What??? And I know about the 7 x 70 rule that Jesus expects us to live by but I always get in the way of it!

So intentionality has to come in to play here where I look at what I am able to control…that would be me and my emotions! Maybe I am making more out of a scenario than I need to? And my assessment wants to scream ‘but they did…’ and then I hear those words, just let it go. Yup sometimes it really is the best choice to make instead of allowing myself to get bent out of shape over something hardly worth picking at. Like a scab you know!

Seems like a cop-out but friend, a lot of the time it can spare a lot of bickering and wrong thinking toward another. Rather let’s just choose to just “Let it go!”

  1. OOOHHHH, Kimberly, how right you are. I’m a recovering controller…sometimes a backsliding one, too. ‘Just let it go’ is something that I have to be intentional about..just as you said. Sometimes we have to pick the hills we want to die on, and it is important to choose wisely. Great advice. Thanks for joining us at The Loft today.

    1. I am blessed to be with you girls! Intentional is the catch word isn’t it! And I hear ya with the control stuff! I do a presentation on surrendering you control issues! Blessings to you Leah!

  2. The ‘justice’ game. I like that. I now have a name for the silly mental contortions I pull at times. Simple, yet profound advice here. You are right that we could spare ourselves a lot of wasted time and strife if we would but choose to let things go. Nicely said.

  3. I am right there with you! I heard someone once (wish I could remember who…!) who was having a hard time letting it go. They said what they started doing was taking out some paper, writing down whatever their concern/issue was, then ripping it up and throwing it away. It gave her some time to sit with her feelings, write them down, consider them, pray over them, and then let it go. Your words here are a great reminder that I need to do this a lot more often! Thank you for joining us at The Loft! We hope to see you again next week!

  4. This is simple but profound advice. Such a great reminder to breathe. Everything really is going to be okay!

My messages apparently aren’t going through to you since I’ve tried at least three times on fb. Can you email me at the address above so I can send you the printables for EE?

    1. So I didn’t put any Scripture in the post but my mantra continues to be the same as over the last four years or so…Philippians 4:6,7. And I use it a lot!!!
Thanks for helping me with the printables! I am really enjoying the book! I am slow at it as my life is not my own right now. Do what I can do and “let the rest go” ;0)

  5. Good post. Just let it go. Hard to do, but in time some things just can’t be fixed or holding on to them will leave a burning scar.

  6. Letting go. Seems so simple, but is so hard. And even after we do it, how many times do we go back and pick it up again? You know, for me, one of the hardest things is doing that when I need to forgive myself. It’s usually much easier for me to forgive others. But I’m really good at beating myself up! Even there, we need to learn to just let go, don’t we? Thanks, and so glad to meet you over at The Loft, Kimberly!
